Real Madrid has done it yet again. They are the victors of the UEFA Champions League 2023/24, defeating Borussia Dortmund by a margin of 2-0 at the iconic Wembley Stadium.
This is their 15th title win in the tournament’s history, and they are the only team to have won this title more than 10 times. The second team on the list of most title wins is Milan, with just seven titles to their name.
Real Madrid survived in first half
The game started with Dortmund dominating the field, and their organised midfield and defence proved to be a formidable challenge for Madrid. The German side’s pace and intensity at times seemed insurmountable. Yet, with their unwavering spirit, the Spanish champions managed to weather the storm in the first half of the game.
Despite Dortmund’s several efforts on goal, the scoreline at halftime was a stalemate. This might have given the German side some hope. But against Madrid, in a UCL final, it just wasn’t going to be the case.
Carvajal, Vinicius win it late for Madrid
Hence, everyone knew Los Blancos were just a . Given their history of late goals in this competition, no one was surprised to see Dani Carvajal, who had been a key player in Madrid’s defensive line throughout the tournament, net a header in the 74th minute of the game.
This tilted the tide in Madrid’s favour, and with little to no resistance shown by Dortmund in the dying embers of the game, Vinicius Junior doubled the lead. With an 82nd-minute goal, he ensured there was no late drama, no more slip-ups, and just another dominating UCL win for Real Madrid.
Madrid win historic 15th UCL title
Scenes of jubilation unfolded at Wembley as Carlo Ancelotti lifted the coveted trophy for the fifth time in his career. He has been the actual mastermind behind the job. The Italian coach is often said to have a Midas touch with this Madrid side, as he always finds the right combination to get the job done.
Whenever it seems the chips are down, and Madrid is on the verge of a knockout, Don Ancelotti pulls them out of it. This season, they also found themselves in trouble against Man City in the quarters and Bayern in the semis. However, with their never-give-up attitude, they turned the tables and emerged victorious in both matches.
With the dawn of a new era in the club’s history, the Spaniards expect more glory and trophies in the coming years.
