Gather around Indian fans and shout in unison the chants of “India… India…” as the contingent of Indian players aim for glory at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Indian contingent will feature 117 athletes in sports such as wrestling, archery, boxing, swimming, sailing, badminton, shooting, hockey, and athletics.
They will be backed by 140-strong support staff, bringing the final tally to 257. This number breaks the previous record of 228, which included 121 athletes during the Tokyo Olympics.
Although Paris will host the games, events will take place in other cities and regions of France. For example, surfing is scheduled to take place thousands of kilometres away in the Southern Pacific Ocean.
Now, the eyes will be all set on breaking the previous best of 7 medals India secured at the last Olympics.

Indian athletes to watch out for at Paris Olympics 2024
The very first name on everyone’s mind when it comes to medal contention for the Indian contingent must be that of Neeraj Chopra. He became the first track athlete to win a track and field medal for India at the Olympics. Along with that, he also became the only second individual Olympic champion for India after Abhinav Bindra.
However, Chopra is not the only hot prospect. Another player to watch out for has to be Lovlina Borgohain. The Assamese boxer secured a bronze medal in her very first Olympic outing. Later, she followed it up with a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Championships, and on top of that, she also secured a silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023. Hence, she is likely to bring forth a medal for her side.
Last but not the least has to be Mirabai Chanu. She was the first medalist for India in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She also ended a 21-year drought in weightlifting for her country as she became the only second medal in weightlifting after Karnam Malleswari in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Therefore, there will be high exactions from her as well.
