Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to win gold at the World Athletics Championships.
At the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw competition, creating history for Indian athletics. The ‘Golden Kid of Indian Athletics’ winning a gold medal in this illustrious competition cemented his place in history.
Neeraj’s outstanding accomplishment happened in the wee hours of August 28 as he faced up against rivals from around the globe. He demonstrated tremendous skill by throwing brilliantly on his second attempt, measuring 88.17 metres, sealing his victory in the competition.

Incidentally, Abhinav Bindra is the only other Indian individual athlete to hold the Olympic and world champion titles simultaneously.

Prior Achievements of Neeraj
With the world athletics championships gold, the 25-year-old Chopra has now won gold at every major international event.
Two years back, Neeraj Chopra had evoked the same emotions after becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to win an Olympic gold in Tokyo.
The Indian javelin throw ace won gold medals at the junior world championships in 2016, the 2017 Asian championships, the 2018 Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He also won the Diamond League title last year.
This outstanding performance not only secured the gold medal for Neeraj but also established him as a trailblazer for Indian sports on the global stage. The victory sent the nation of 1.5 billion into a frenzy.
