Manchester United have had an incredibly disappointing season, having finished 8th in the Premier League. The Red Devils also failed to qualify for European knockouts having finished rock bottom in their UEFA Champions League group of Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray. Erik ten Hag’s men now have an opportunity to end the season on a high as they gear up for the FA Cup final against arch rivals Manchester City.

Manchester United’s stumbling run in the FA Cup

Manchester United look for their FA Cup title

Manchester United’s FA Cup run has been full of drama. After beating lower league teams Wigan and Newport in the earlier rounds, Manchester United sneaked a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest. In the Quarter finals the Red Devils defeated Liverpool after extra time 4-3 in incredible fashion. The next round against Coventry City was another sensational affair where Manchester United surrendered a 3 goal lead. A win in the penalty shootout ended up saving Manchester United but the performance was massively scrutinized. Manchester United’s big injury list consists of Tyler Malacia, Antony Martial and Luke Shaw. However, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Raphael Varane, Willy Kambwala and Lisandro Martinez are all set to return while Harry Maguire is still doubtful.

Manchester City aim for another domestic double

Manchester City

On the weekend Manchester City became the first team to win 4 consecutive Premier League titles. Now Pep Guardiola will be looking to add another FA Cup to his illustrious trophy cabinet. Just one trophy albeit the Premier League by Manchester City’s standard isn’t something extraordinary. However a domestic double would be another stellar season. City will have their entire squad apart from Ederson available.

Manchester City are clear favourites but United could pull off something out of their hat. The FA Cup is known for upsets and this one won’t be too outlandish. With the return of certain key players Erik ten Hag will be hoping to give the blues a run for their money. Despite having won everything there is to win, Pep Guardiola’s men never seem to lack ambition. It has been a long season and now it will come down to which team wants it more.
