Euro 2024 is at its business end. A tournament that started with 24 teams has just 2 teams left, fighting it out for European Glory to etch their name in the history books forever.

Hosted in Germany, the tournament had a lot to offer to everyone. It will be remembered for its captivating narratives, stunning upsets, and the emergence of new heroes.

The group stages saw some of the biggest setbacks. For example, in Group D, which comprised giants like France, the Netherlands, and Poland, somehow Austria topped the group. On top of that, Croatia, the World Cup finalists of 2018, was ousted ahead of the Round of 16, which saw Slovakia and Slovenia qualify above them.

As if that was not enough, in the Round-of-16 games, we saw the rise of another unprecedented force in Switzerland. Everyone had written them off after their automatic qualification from group A. But they proved everyone wrong by defeating champions Italy and later sending the quarterfinal tie against England, the previous runner-up, to penalties.

Lastly, the Spanish team has redeemed itself as the footballing giants. This year, they have looked like a different team altogether. They qualified for knockouts as the only unbeaten side in the group stage and have gone from strength to strength since then.

Players to watch out for in Euro 2024

The dynamic young personality of Lamine Yamal is undoubtedly the list topper in this category. He has stepped up for his team throughout the tournament. However, that goal from outside the box against France in the semifinals will always remain special. The 16-year-old single-handedly swung the tie in his team’s favour.

Another player to watch out for is Dani Olmo of Spain. He has provided the requisite attacking power that Spain seemed to lack in previous tournaments. With 3 goals for his side in the knockouts, he is the joint top scorer in the tournament and will be itching to bring the trophy home for his side.
